Northius is a globally recognised online education group offering a broad range of programmes - from professional courses to specialised master's degrees - across fields like technology, veterinary science, audiovisual production and civil-service exam preparation. Despite already using Stripe successfully for payments, Northius had unique billing requirements that called for specialised branding and more advanced use of Stripe's subscription system. The needs ran from creating custom landing pages for each brand to streamlining reconciliation processes and implementing automated notifications.
To address these challenges, Northius brought in Square1's Consulting and Development teams. Through a combination of tailored training and hands-on implementation, we introduced a middleware solution that preserved each brand's identity while keeping payment functionality robust, and ran in-depth Stripe Billing sessions that empowered Northius's internal teams to manage and optimise the platform themselves.

Stripe Billing had been successfully handling Northius's enrolment and tuition instalments, but the group's expansion revealed the need for more specialised solutions. Stripe's subscription system covered the essential core, but Northius identified several requirements demanding bespoke development. Chief among these was the complexity of operating numerous brands via a single Stripe account - an arrangement that often led to uniform branding and limited differentiation on customer-facing payment pages.
At the same time, Northius's teams wanted deeper knowledge of Stripe's reconciliation processes and advanced features. As the organisation continued to evolve, adapting payment flows quickly without disrupting the user experience became essential. The brief therefore had two halves: technical enhancements that solved the multi-brand presentation problem, and targeted enablement that lifted the operational team's Stripe fluency to where the platform's roadmap demanded.

Alongside the consulting, we built an external middleware solution that generates brand-specific landing pages. This guarantees each brand under the Northius umbrella retains its identity while delivering consistent payment workflows. Dedicated URLs and customised branding give the new landing pages a seamless user experience that lifts the perceived professionalism and brand cohesion across Northius's educational offerings.
From a development perspective, the middleware sits between Northius and Stripe to meet the group's multi-brand requirements. Rather than relying on Stripe's default Hosted Invoice Page - where every invoice features the same design - the middleware dynamically generates unique payment pages reflecting each brand's specific identity.
The collaborative process leveraged Square1's deep Stripe knowledge to let Northius adopt a multi-brand approach while maintaining a unified vision of a modern, learner-centric online education platform.
Following the rollout of the middleware and the comprehensive training sessions, Northius saw immediate improvements across its payment infrastructure. Learners now benefit from brand-specific payment pages that build trust and smooth the enrolment process. Internal teams have the confidence and the skills to manage and reconcile payments themselves, thanks to a deeper, hands-on understanding of Stripe's advanced features.
That newfound autonomy means swift resolution of subscription and billing issues. The bespoke solution lets the group manage cancelled subscriptions more effectively - invoices can still be activated and processed when needed. The result is a flexible yet cohesive payment system across multiple brands, reinforcing a consistent user experience aligned with each school's identity.
Crucially, the collaboration delivered not only a technical transformation but also positioned Northius to evolve continually. With internal teams now fluent in Stripe's capabilities, the organisation is well-placed to adapt and expand its digital payment framework as the business grows.
